Reimagining Pinterest's job application page to reflect their app.

The Challenge
What if Pinterest’s job application process reflected the visual style and functionality of their app?
My goal was to redesign Pinterest's traditional job application experience to better align with their brand identity, using their signature tile-based layout and mobile app design elements.

Assess Current
First, I assessed the current job application page for open roles at Pinterest. I went through the process of looking through the position information and requirements, as well as the job application form.

Key Observations
-
Standard form/list view
-
Not interactive
-
Lacks creative/inspiring vibe of brand
-
Once reaching bottom of page — have to scroll up to look at role again
-
Visually bland/neutral
Gather Inspiration
My goal of the project was to integrate the style and interactivity of the Pinterest app into their job applications. Thus, my next step was to gather inspiration from the Pinterest app itself, with a focus on the tile feature.

Sketches
With the current design and job application perimeters in mind, as well as my observations from Pinterest, I brainstormed and sketched some potential design ideas.

Job position page has information organized by tiles similar to the Pinterest app. When users click apply, they are taken to the job application form where each question is also like a Pinterest tile.

Similar to Idea 1, but the job application form tiles are on the same page as description, and description is not in tiles.

Job description is written out on the left, and users can expand by clicking "info". The job application form is on the right, using the Pinterest board tile format.

Wireframes
I then created some initial low-fidelity wireframes based on my third sketch idea.
Application Page Wireframe

Each tile has a specific application question (such as contact info). When users hover over the tile, they can see the requested information and fill it out. Then, they can save their answers by clicking the "Save" button.

High-Fidelity Design
Finally, I created a high-fidelity prototype of my design, integrating interactive buttons and features similar to the Pinterest app.

Pinterest Tiles
When users hover over a tile icon, the information title is presented. If the tile is clicked, the application questions and info can be filled out. This will show until the information is saved.

Reflection
Redesigning the Pinterest job app was a valuable opportunity to apply my UX and UI design skills to create a more appealing, interactive, and brand-consistent experience. My primary focus was on enhancing the visual design to align more closely with Pinterest's brand identity while improving interactivity to engage users better. By simplifying navigation and enhancing the overall aesthetics, I aimed to make the application process more intuitive and enjoyable. This project reinforced the importance of brand consistency, visual appeal, and interactive elements in user-centered design, and it was a rewarding experience to contribute to a more polished and user-friendly application process for Pinterest.
